SUV crashes into prisoner van driving to Tarrant County Jail causing rollover.

Dallas, TX (AmericanInjuryNews.com)–A prison van carrying 12 inmates was creamed by an SUV on East Loop 820 near the Sun Valley Drive exit in Fort Worth this morning. The Dallas Morning News reported the prisoner van was traveling to the Tarrant County Jail when it was struck by a Chevy SUV from behind causing it to overturn. All 12 inmates suffered injuries and were transported by rescue workers to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital and John Peter Smith Hospital according to Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department officials.

The prisoners, who were being transported from the Mansfield jail, were not wearing seat belts which is required by law. Emergency medical workers rescue efforts of the injured prisoners were delayed because the inmates were handcuffed and locked in wire cages. Fire rescue workers had to contend with a large van lying on its roof. The Chevy SUV truck driver, who rear-ended the van causing the rollover accident on the highway, was reportedly not injured.
