FBI raids Georgia peanut plant!
The FBI raids and seals off Peanut Corp. of America’s Georgia plant.
Dallas, TX (AmericanInjuryNews.com)–Federal agents with the United Stated Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) www.fbi.gov raided the Blakely, Georgia peanut processing plant of Peanut Corp. of America on Monday. As reported by CNN, the Food and Drug Administraion (FDA) had opened a criminal investigation into the peanut company on Janurary 30,2009.
Peanut Corp. of America’s peanut butter plant in Blakely is allegedly the source of an epidemic salmonella outbreak. The peanut butter company is charged with knowingly shipping salmonella tainted peanut paste and peanut butter products to distributors and food service vendors throughout the United States and Canada.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) www.cdc.gov has been baffled since the nationwide outbreak of salmonella began in September of 2008. Reportedly over 600 people have been sickened including 8 deaths in over 43 states. The peanut scare and salmonella outbreak has led to over 1,000 consumer product recalls and industry experts claim this is one of the largest recalls in American history.
The company also has a peanut processing plant in Plainview, Texas which state and federal authorities recently discovered has been operating unlicensed and uninspected since 2005. AmericanInjuryNews.com released this health concern to all Texans in early February. The Plainview, Texas plant was linked to positive testing for salmonella on Tuesday. Federal investigators are determining if the Plainview plant is associated with the nationwide salmonella outbreak and reportedly remains under investigation by the Texas health officials.
