Over 50 Irving school district employees victim of identity theft

Irving school district employees fall victim to identity theft.

Dallas, TX (AmericanInjuryNews.com)–The Dallas Morning News reported late Tuesday, Irving police are investigating the identity theft of over 50 current and former employees and their family members of the Irving school district. Irving police investigators and school district officials remain uncertain how the thieves stole the personal information of the district employees to obtain illegal credit cards.

On January 16, 2009, Irving police arrested Sharon Denise Seeley, a 39 year-old Bedford female, when she tried to open a credit card account at Sears located in the Irving Mall. Investigators report Seeley was trying to buy tires and used a fake ID of a Elliott Elementary School teacher. The district attorney’s office charged Seeley with two felonies in connection with the identity theft. Police discovered social security numbers and other sensitive information which would allow Seeley to obtain credit cards illegally. The district attorney filed charges of fraudulent use and possession of identification and credit card abuse in court against Seeley.

Police have identified more than 50 victims. The Irving school district’s security office claims officials are working to destroy paper documents and secure computer systems. Legal experts are questioning the school district’s loose policies regarding the protection of its employees personal information.
