Texas Governor Perry known for following the money.
Dallas, TX (JusticeNewsFlash.com)–Texas Governor Rick Perry may be making a weak attempt at switching sides. Two years ago, as reported by the Dallas Morning News, Governor Perry sided with big business and the anti-lawsuit cartel. He vetoed an eminent domain bill which would give more protection to private property owners in the state of Texas. Interestingly, Governor Perry’s largest campaigning contributor to date is Texas’ largest home builder Bob Perry. He has given the governor more than $1 million in campaign contributions. Money must be thicker than blood because these two men have no familial relationship. They surprisingly seem to share two simple things in common; the same last name, and the love of money at the expense of consumers’ rights.
Richard Weekley and his brother David Weekley, another homebuilder in Texas, have given the governor $144,000. The Texans for Lawsuit Reform, a big business interest group, have given more than $68,000 to the Texas Governor in Austin. This is interesting in a state where individual property owners and home owners are already sitting at a huge disadvantage. Contracts with mandatory binding arbitration agreements already exist in Texas. According to top civil trial lawyers in Dallas and throughout the state, the decade kicking off the 2000 milenia has proved to be a non-stop process of stripping away the individual rights of consumers in Texas through legislation.
Big business, insurance special interests groups and the Texas Medical Association have pushed through vital legislation causing a massive tort reform siding with big money interests at the expense of Texas consumers. For nearly two decades, Texas families have been subjected to a long slog of so-called tort ‘reform’ that has padded the bottom lines of insurance companies and their ilk with the blood, sweat, and tears of Texas families,” said Alex Winslow, executive director of Texas Watch, a statewide citizens advocacy group dedicated to an open legal accountability system. “It is time to repair and restore our accountability system by undoing the corporate immunity agenda.”
Last week, Governor Perry announced his support for an amendment to the constitution to strengthen private property owners’ rights. Many legal and political experts are questioning this change of heart by the Governor. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson has already announced her bid to unseat Perry in the Republican primary in 13 months. One of the top issues in Senator Hutchinson’s platform is Governor Perry’s history of siding, repeatedly, with big business and large homebuilders like Bob Perry and the David Weekley. Bob Perry is the president of Perry Homes located in Dallas, Austin, Houston, San Antonio and McAllen. David Weekley is the president of David Weekley Homes located in the following cities in Texas; Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio and Houston. Weekley homes also builds in multiple states across the U.S. including Colorado, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
