Arklatex caught dumping oil field pollutants into U.S. waters by EPA

Dallas, TX (AmericanInjuryNews.com)–The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) www.epa.gov released an order on January 12, 2009 ordering Arklatex Operating Company, Inc., to cease discharging pollutants. According to the release posted on EPA’s website, two Arklatex facilities, have been caught dumping oil field brine into U.S. waters. The two facilities located in Arkansas deal with oil field production and brine disposal. One is located in Union County and the other in Ouachita County.

On December 16, 2008, an EPA inspector found the Union County facility had recently discharged oil field brine into wetlands right next to Smackover Creek. Oil field brine is a byproduct of oil production. On the same day the EPA inspector found the same pollutants released into Ben Davis Lake at the Ouachita County facility. The EPA determined the pollutant entering the wetlands and lake was contaminated oil field brine.

The EPA has ordered Arklatex Operating Company to cease all discharge of pollutants from both facilities, remove all brine and contaminated soils, and provide written writing within 30 to 45 days.
