Harris County Assistant District Attorney http://app.dao.hctx.net/, Mothers Against Drunk Driving http://www.madd.org/, and the Deer Park Police Department http://www.ci.deer-park.tx.us/ in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/, are urging the Texas Legislature to require bikers to wear helmets. The motorcycle safety initiative is also calling for all Texas bikers to attend motorcycle training and courses to reduce the number of motorcycle crashes and fatalities.

Enews bike wreck injury attorneys and reporters are informing all drivers and riders of the high number of deaths associated with motorcycle wrecks. In Houston 26 riders have been killed this year and Deer Park has seen 3 motorcycle fatalities this year. The rash of serious motorcycle accidents in Deer Park reflects a nationwide trend. -A lack of helmets is contributing to fatalities
-In 2007, 60 percent of the 375 motorcycle riders killed in Texas were not wearing helmets
-Too many new riders don’t take a motorcycle riding training and safety course.
-Drivers in cars and trucks are inattentive and don’t note oncoming motorcycles because of their size.
-Too many motorcyclists ride while drunk or on drugs.
