Unlike tap water, for which all test results are made public, bottled water manufacturers conceal water test results from the public.
Currently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not require bottled water companies to report or disclose water test results.
Bottled water costs hundreds of times more than tap water, but when it comes to consumer protections, it’s no better. A recent posting on the Environmental Working Group (EWG) http://www.ewg.org, a non-profit consumer advocacy organization alerts they recently tested ten popular bottled water brands. Their popular water brand test results found consumer bottled waters contained 38 chemical pollutants, bacteria, and some with contaminant levels no better than tap water.
Aggressive in the Texas courts, Dallas County water/food injury attorney, Greco, urges the (FDA) to impose stricter guidelines and standards on the national and local levels for bottled water testing for bacteria and other harmful contaminants. Greco is informing Texas consumers to consider the following before drinking water until the federal legislature has enacted stricter safety guidelines:
-Choose your tap water over bottled water
-Look up your city’s water in EWG’s National Tap Water Atlas http://www.ewg.org
-Use filtered water when drinking or cooking
-Change filters on a regular basis (old filters harbor bacteria)
-Use safe water containers for storage
