Dallas Texas product liability lawyer, Shelly Greco, reviews lack of FDA inspection of foreign drug manufactures. The FDA is urged to protect American consumers by inspecting foreign drug companies.
Alarmed Dallas product liability attorney, Shelly Greco, of Eberstein and Witherite, LLP, explores a recent report released by the Government Accountability Office (GAO). Foreign plants are reported to be responsible for millions of drugs available to U.S. consumers nationwide. This report estimates the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspects as little as 8 percent of foreign drug manufacturing plants per year. The remaining 92 percent of foreign manufacturers go uninspected by the United States Government. The GAO further reveals 3,249 foreign manufacturing plants are producing medications for the American pharmaceutical market. The FDA only inspects an average of 247 of these foreign plants a year. The report states the FDA is severely understaffed and would need 27 years to inspect every foreign medical device plant with its current staffing levels. Based on the current number of available FDA inspectors, it would take 13 years to check every foreign drug plan.
Greco, an experienced product liability lawyer located in Dallas Texas, connects the lack of FDA inspections as a possible cause of recent contaminated products, from China, entering U.S. markets causing serious injury to American citizens. The product liability law firm of Eberstein and Witherite recommends contacting a product liability attorney if you believe you have been injured due to the negligence and carelessness of drug manufacturers, either foreign or domestic.
